Darkness had engulfed Urameshi Yusuke's vision. He had lost track of time nor was he able to tell if it was daytime or nighttime, he was on the verge of madness. Since he had been locked up in the cold, damp prison cell, he was forbidden from leaving. Away from his family and close friends, Yusuke grew homesick and worried about them. Unfortunately, those thoughts of home and loved ones were short-lived.
Almost every day, the warden of the prison would visit him when she felt like...playing. She was the queen and owner of the castle outside the prison, a young woman named Xiv. Heartless and cruel, she would torture Yusuke mercilessly by using different methods that she deemed interesting.
His screams were music to her ears and his acidic insults meant nothing to her, being literally heartless. But, to her surprise, one of Yusuke's affronts struck her like a knife. Xiv tried to push it away like she would with all the others but it replayed in her mind endlessly.
One day, Xiv didn't visit Yusuke's cell and the Spirit Detective grew curious once that day progressed into an entire week. Being as dense as he was, he pondered hundreds of possible reasons but didn't stop to think that he might've hurt her feelings. It never crossed his mind even once.

By the beginning of the second week, the doors to the prison open. Xiv made her way to Yusuke, holding a ring of keys in her twirling index finger. Her face showed the same indifference as always and Yusuke thought she was over her depression and ready to torture him again. He was surprised when she unlocked his chains as she stood before him.
"You're free to go, boy," she mumbled. "I don't need you here anymore."
Rubbing his numbed, reddened wrists, Yusuke's ears perked at her words. "What?" He scrambled to stand to his wobbling feet but the redhead merely crossed her arms over her chest.
"Didn't you hear me?" Her dark eyes narrowed at him. "I said that you're free to go. Now leave."
Xiv waved her hand and the guards accompanying her escorted Yusuke out the prison. They took him to the prison gates and threw him to the earthy floor. Yusuke winced at the still-healing injuries, his eyes blinded when the sunlight hit his brown-eyed face.
Truthfully, he was more than happy to finally be outside. He could go home where he could see his friends and joke around with them like old times. But there was a nagging feeling in Yusuke's heart that wouldn't leave him be.
Looking back at the castle, not too far away, Yusuke could see the woman in her private chambers. Her expression was much different from what he was used to seeing. Instead of smirking or laughing, or even a face of boredom, she was crying...?
Yusuke's brown eyes softened at the sight, his heart aching once he realized the reason behind her sadness. A flame burned inside him and grew gradually as he turned to stare at Xiv's sad face. He knew what he had to do.
