The sky filled with golden and orange-pink hues as the sun descended. Byakuya yawned, finally finished with his day of boring paperwork; despite being as taciturn as he was, he would've preferred a fight or two...just to make it more interesting.
He had planned to rest in his private chambers, away from his work, but he heard a sobbing from one of the offices on the left. Normally, Byakuya would've ignored it and went on home but the curiosity piqued his interest when he recognized the sobs. Strolling down to the office, he knocked on the door.
A weak voice answered, "Y-Yes?"
"James-san. It's Captain Kuchiki. What are you doing in there?"
Byakuya heard some shuffling and a few thuds before the door opened. A young woman with honey-brown skin stood in front of him, her face tear-stained and her eyes puffy from crying. She stood straight after bowing to her captain, trying to keep a serious face.
"Yes, sir?"
"You were crying," Byakuya answered coolly, "when you were supposed to be finishing your work. What's the problem?"
Furiously, she shook her head. "No, Captain Kuchiki! It's nothing." She sniffed, rubbing her swollen eyes. "I'm sorry for disturbing you. I'll get back to work now."
The woman turned her back to him and headed back to her desk, only to have her wrist caught by the captain. She looked back in his direction, her cheeks staining red at his solemn gaze.
"I know you're lying to me, Chyna," he said, his eyes narrowing as he said her name. "Tell me what happened."
At the sound of her name, the dark-skinned woman froze and stopped walking. She shifted her small body towards Byakuya, her eyes looking towards the ground.
"I didn't want to say anything because I thought it would be troublesome," she answered. His eyes shifted to her hands which clenched into fists. "My fiance..." she continued, "I saw him with another woman."
Byakuya saw her frustration develop into bitter anger, the tears threatening to fall down her cheeks again. "I see," he answered. "That is most unfortunate. My apologies for bringing up something unpleasant."
Chyna shook her head. "Forget it." She cracked a phony smile as she walked back to her desk. "Again, sorry for the noise." As she sat back at her desk, Byakuya stared at her. It soon made her uncomfortable and she blushed, pushing some of her curly, black hair behind her ear. "Uh...what?"
He waved his hand and turned his back to her to make his leave. "After you've finished your work, I would like you to meet me outside the Squad 6 headquarters. Understand?"
His subordinate nodded with a "Yes, sir" before he left.

Chyna followed Byakuya's orders and met him outside the headquarters as requested. She was confused as to why and what he would want. Her captain wasn't the type to do such things so it worried her a bit. Byakuya stood by one of the posts outside the headquarters when she arrived. His eyes still solemn, he made a nodding gesture, which urged her to follow.
Raising an eyebrow, Chyna bounded behind her captain. As much as she wanted to question his intentions, she thought it best to keep quiet until she sensed something suspicious. They traveled up a hill, through a forest of tall, dark trees. Chyna pushed her way past the trees and opened her mouth to speak.
"Uh... Captain Kuchiki!" she spoke up, "What's the meaning of-?"
Byakuya pointed towards an opening as he lead her to the edge of the hill. Chyna's eyes widened at the sight of the bright, silver moon shining in the sky. Stars surrounded the celestial orb, glittering like diamonds in the sky.
Her golden-brown eyes drank in the beautiful sight, her heart warming instantly. Byakuya held in a smile at her lovely smile as his dark eyes looked towards the moon. He surprised her even more when his hand slipped around hers, his fingers closing gently but firmly around her own.
"Do you like it?" he asked quietly. "Does it help you forget about him...Chyna?"
The dark-skinned female blushed at the closeness but nodded. "Yes, I do. It's beautiful." Her smile grew wider as she looked up at the captain. "Thank you so much. It made me so much better."
"..."
Her captain remained silent as he leaned down, pressing his lips against Chyna's. They stayed for a few seconds, though, before he retracted and turned back to the moon, letting go of her hand.
"I will see you tomorrow at work."
Chyna shook her head and sighed, walking back down the hill. She could still feel the warmth of Byakuya's hand and a small teardrop fell down her face.
"Yeah... See you tomorrow, Captain."
